ERP India Discussion Group

LINK TO GROUP HOME PAGE

The ERP India discussion group is hosted on Yahoo Groups. It was started in July 2002. This group is an effort to bring together people interested in the enterprise information technology solutions market in India. Members can use the group to ask other group members questions (remember no question is silly) or to post something important that the member feels others should be aware of. This way the group will serve as an information and knowledge sharing mechanism. The archives of the messages will also be accessible/searchable from the group home page and thus members can use it as a knowledgebase also. Even though the group name includes the word ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), the discussions should not be restricted strictly to ERP systems. Any discussion on Enterprise Solutions including CRM (Customer Relationship Management), SCM (Supply Chain Management), BI (Business Intelligence) etc. can be done. Discussions could also be on the inter relationships of various types of enterprise systems and technologies. The group can also be very useful for people currently evaluating packages for their organizations. They can get opinion from other members about experiences with a particular package.

Below you will find information useful for joining and using the discussion group.

Joining the Group

There are 3 ways to join the group

(1) You can go to the home page of the group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/erp-india) and join from there. You will need a Yahoo id if you choose this method.

(2) Send a blank email to erp-india-subscribe@yahoogroups.com with word Subscribe in the subject line from the email address that you want to use for this discussion group. You will get a response email from Yahoo Groups asking you to confirm the subscription. Please follow instructions as mentioned in that email.

(3) QUICK REGISTRATION: Please send email with “ERP India Subscribe” in subject to vmunshi@erp-india.com. Also mention subscription mode required. Possible modes are

“Individual Emails” – You will receive all emails posted on the group

“Daily Digest” – One email containing all emails posted on the group will be sent at end of day

“Special Notices” – Only special notices posted by the group moderator will be sent to you

“No email” – No email will be sent. You are choosing to browse the postings from the group web site

For “Special Notices” and “No email” modes a yahoo email address is required. If no mode is mentioned than “Individual Emails” mode will be used as default.

Methods 2 and 3 don’t require you to have a Yahoo email address. Please see below for more information on whether to use a Yahoo email address or not.

Questions regarding the joining process may be directed to vispi_munshi@hotmail.com (vispi_munshi at hotmail.com).

Which email address should I use?

We recommend that you use a separate email address (from your personal email address) for discussion groups. This will avoid flooding of your personal email with discussion group messages. Also avoid using your company/office email, that way when you change jobs you won’t need to subscribe again.

Do I need a Yahoo email address to join the group?

No, you don’t need a Yahoo email address if you choose methods 2 and 3 to join the group. However, without a Yahoo id you won’t be able to sign in to the group’s web site (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/erp-india). The web site allows you to access/search archives of the group and some other cool features. It is possible to attach a non Yahoo email address to a Yahoo id.

Posting Messages to the Group Forum

Simple, just send the message to erp-india@yahoogroups.com, please use an appropriate subject heading, which represents the content of the message. Members replying to a message posted, just need to use the Reply button of their email program, hence their subject line will have “RE: original subject”.

Un-subscribing from the Group

Please send a blank email to erp-india-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Group Moderation Guidelines

Members should try and post messages, which are relevant to the scope and purpose of the group.

Obscene, Sexist, Racist language or remarks are strictly prohibited. Members should also avoid personal attacks and avoid questioning fellow members qualification.

Recruiting or job finding is not allowed.

Members can recommend (or otherwise) commercial products or services in response to a request from another member, however promotion of products or services is not permitted.

Contact information (like telephone numbers) should not be mentioned in postings, as this information can be misused.

Message File Attachment Guidelines

The following guidelines apply for files attachments to sent messages

Ø      File attachments should be used only when absolutely necessary.

Ø      The total size of file attachments to a message should not exceed 100 Kilobytes.

Ø      Only .txt (text) and .rtf (rich text) formats will be allowed (.doc will have to be converted to .rtf by member).

The moderator will detach file attachments from messages and put the files in the Files section. The posted message will have a note from the moderator indicating the name of any attached files to the message. If interested in accessing the files, members can then go to the Files section and download the files.

The Files section can be accessed from the group home page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/erp-india/. To access it, members will need a Yahoo id to sign in. Members with non Yahoo email addresses will need to get a Yahoo id and attach the non Yahoo email address to the Yahoo id.

Membership Information Privacy Policy

We respect the privacy of group members and hence the email addresses or any other information about the member (except that is publicly visible from the group web site) will NOT be shared with third parties by the group administrator or moderator.

Member Subscription Mode

Yahoo Groups provides a feature called Subscription Mode for each member. Basically the subscription mode determines how posted emails are delivered to members. It is a nice mechanism by which the member can customize the way they receive group emails based on their preference.

To change your subscription mode, please send request email to vmunshi@erp-india.com with following in subject line

Mode Change: <New Mode>

Hence if you would like to change your subscription mode to “Daily Digest”, then the subject line should read

Mode Change: Daily Digest

NOTE 1: The change request email has to be from the same email address to which you had subscribed.

NOTE 2: For “Special Notices” and “No email” modes a yahoo email address is required.

NOTE 3: It is not possible to have multiple modes for the same email address. Only one mode has to be selected at a time.

NOTE 4: The “Individual Emails” mode results in the highest volume of email received. If you are planning to go on vacation and want to avoid receiving excessive email, then you might want to consider changing your mode to “No email” or “Special Notices” or “Daily Digest”. Once you are back from vacation, you can have the mode changed back to the original setting. If you like, you can look through the postings (that you missed while on vacation) from the archives of the group web site.

Accessing Message Archives

To access the message archives no access/authorization needs to be granted. All members can access/search the archives from the group home page, provided they have a Yahoo id, which is attached to a email address, which in turn should be subscribed to the erp-india Yahoo Group.

Here is how you access/search the message archives

Step 1: Go to the home page - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/erp-india/

Step 2: Sign in with your Yahoo id – there is a Sign In link at the top of the home page

Step 3: Scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see a Search Archive button. You will also see a table with months and numbers running across. Using the Search button you can search the archives for specific keywords. Using the table (click on the numbers) you can browse through the posted messages.

If you are subscribed to the group with a non yahoo email address, then you need to get a Yahoo id and attach the non yahoo email address to the Yahoo id. To get a new Yahoo id, go to www.yahoo.com and click on Sign-up.
